Bingham Glory Days

Eric and I both graduated from High School in 1990. I graduate in Maryland. My High School is named Bethesda Chevy-Chase. I was very involved with sports. Big surprise, I know. I played basketball all 4 years of High School. I was ranked in the state of Maryland in the top ten players my junior year. I was ranked number 3 and 2 my junior and senior year in my county. I have pictures of my senior year playing on the All-Star game for our County. I was given the MVP award for this game. That is me in the center jumping for the ball. The second picture is of me and my coach and the point guard for our team.

I also thought it would be funny to post my prom picture. So here is that too. I went with a boy named Matt Lawerence. Just as friends. Didn't have a serious boyfriend my senior year.

The last picture is of me at graduation. One nice thing about living just outside of Washing DC is that you have some neat places that are available to you. We graduated at the Kennedy Center in DC. It was a amazing place to walk across the stage there.

Eric went to high school at Tooele High. He was on the track team there. Mostly what Eric liked to do is to ride his dirt bike at the sand dunes and go hunting and fishing whenever he could. I know, big shocker!! Here is a picture of Eric fishing in Alaska. I think this is one just after High School, but it is the oldest one we have right now. What I wish you could see is the rats tail that Eric has. I hope that you all know what that was, it was huge in the 80's for boys. It has something to do with his hair. Oh, the good old days!!

Joe and Denise's high school glory days

Here we are in all our glory. Joe is really going to kill me when he sees the picture I posted of him. Yes he has always been a huge basketball fan. Whenever he had a spare moment, he was outside shooting hoops. He made the team his freshman, sophomore and junior year. His senior year he tried out and made it to final cuts and it was between him and the coaches son...guess who was chosen, that's right, the coaches son. Now before you mock the uniform remember this probably was taken in '87 or '88. He DID graduate in 1989, you gotta love the 80's. At 5'7" he could even dunk the basketball on a 10' hoop, don't ask him to do that now, I don't think he'd be able to do it.
B B B O B, C C C A T, B O B, C A T, BOBCATS. Yes I know this is such a shocker to all of you (not really, right?) but I was a cheerleader in high school, go BOBCATS. I tried out the end of my sophomore year and made it. It was always my dream to be a cheerleader and the lead in the musicals. I made one dream come true. The other, I was just a dancer in the musicals, the Wizard of Oz and Guys and Dolls. I really loved being a cheerleader and having an excuse to spaz out at games and not have people look at me funny. This picture was taken my Senior year, during basketball season. We had a great year our senior year, that was the year the "hazing" incident took place. Our football was headed for state but couldn't go-it was such a bummer but during the winter sports season we took region in all 5 sports-it was awesome, boys basketball also took state. Soccer also took State in the spring. My senior year was definitely a memorable one, and we grew really close as a class because of all we went through.
The other thing I was really big into was choir (Yes, I know this is another shocker to all of you). This is a picture of me and my performing choir "Front Porch Majority". It was so fun to be a part of. All though school I was in choir, and the big thing was to be in Front Porch your senior year. At the end of the year we went down to California and sang at Disneyland, and Knotts Berry Farms. It was such an awesome way to end my senior year. I was also on the softball team my freshman and sophomore years, but didn't really love that. I really have no clue how I made it and I really don't know why I tried out. When I was a Beehive, we were having a practice for softball and I was playing 2nd baseman on a grass field. A grounder was hit and coming right for me. I went down to get it and right before I scooped it up, the ball hit a rut and hit me smack in the nose. That kind of turned me off of softball for a while and I really wasn't very good, but decided to tryout for the high school team just for fun. I really think the reason I made it was because I was a fast runner and was the designated runner for our catcher.
I really had a great high school experience and wouldn't trade it for anything. I loved being
so involved in all that I was, and had great friends. Just remember '94 rules.

The Roundy's and High School

Ironically enough, I have been on an organizing spree and have been organizing our Childhood pictures! So it was fun to see that someone posted the idea of "What we did in High School".
I wasn't much of a school fan, but I did get involved with the sports. I played on the boys hockey team for 3 years at Davis High, I got 2 Varsity Letters, a broken arm, and many bruises! The pic below is of me and my friend Cherry after a game. this picture was in the newspaper talking about girls playing hockey! The picture on the left was from the girls team I played on "The She Devils"!
I made an all time record at Davis High for getting 23 U's. For those of you who don't know, that is a bad citizen ship grade. That might shock some of you, but those who know me, it most likely won't! I wasn't a bad kid, I just didn't like getting up in the morning, and I do have a side of me that has some attitude. I also played Soccer on a couple of Comp leagues and mostly Recreational leagues! I love soccer and love the smell of the ice rink!
I did have a softer side to me as well. I was on Seminary Council my Senior year, took Certified Nurse Assisting classes, and got My EMT the summer after I graduated! My senior paper that I wrote talked mostly about what I was going to do after graduation. I wrote about all my career aspirations, how I never wanted to be a mother, and I wasn't getting married until I was 28. 8 months after graduation I was Married, and a year and a half after we were married, we had Easton! It was a good thing the Lord made it very clear to me that Lance was the one and that there was a diffrent path in my life that I should take, rather than the one I had origionally planned. I'm glad I chose what I did, and I wouldn't change any of it! My firery personality is mostly under control, but occasionally it does surface!

Lance grew up in Sandiego California. He went to 2 diffrent High Schools. He went to Vahalla for his Sophmore and Junior years. Then to Helix for his Senior year. He was very good at both baseball and Football. I didn't realize what a hottie he was in High School until I came across this pic of him last week!! It's a good thing we lived a few states away and went to diffrent High Schools! He also wrestled for a year, but didn't much like it. I'm glad, wrestling is a gross sport! For Father's day this year I found all his pictures from his youth and made him a book. I had no idea that he was some sports superstar. I have to brag for a minuet. There were dozen's of newspaper articles about him. Grand slam this, won the game that! I was shocked. I mean ,I know he is athletic, but I didn't realize that I married the Heartthrob of Helix High School! So, to all the girls of Vahalla and Helix High School, eat your heart out, I got him!

So Lance played Mostly Footbal and Baseball. The baseball pic and the football pic are his Softmore and Junior years. the cowboy pic is his senior picture. I tease him that he is a redneck, but he is a classy redneck! He did have a mullet, but no perm in it, his mother wouldn't let him, thank goodness! He was one of the few cowboys in California!

What Did You Do in High School?

Sports, plays, choir, band, student government, cheerleading, school clubs, jobs, friends, cars (or lack of).... what were you doing in high school?

The Allred Love Story.....all two years of it!

How fun is this!

I met Penn at a Stake Valentine’s Day Dance up at Utah State. My roommate dragged me along because she didn’t want to go alone and she said I needed a break from homework. I met Penn and his brother Spencer in the hall. Penn was there because Spencer said they needed to get out of their house and socialize and meet girls. That night I actually didn’t talk to Penn all that much. I actually didn’t even find out his name. Not a whole lot transpired for a month after that. He worked on the USU Moving Crew so they did the set up for all the basketball games and I was a marketing intern for the athletics department so we saw each other a few times and chit-chatted. I decided one night to be brave and I looked Penn up on the ward directory and decided to text him. Turns out it was his brother Alex’s phone. He so kindly gave me Penn’s number so I texted his correct phone with a very carefully thought out message. Of course, the reply was “Who is this?” I totally felt like a dork. Anyways, we set up a movie night where I was supposed to bring my friends over to their house. After I couldn’t find any of my friends brave enough to venture out and socialize, I flaked. But I had a good excuse. I worked a 10-hour shift that day at the car dealership and then had to work the basketball game that night which was a 3.5 hour shift, so it was a good excuse…right? He then tried rescheduling, but called me while I was driving to California for Spring Break. Penn had given up on me.

Before I tell the story of the first date, I need to tell the story of the first pseudo-date. One Friday night I was on a date with Josh. We went to dinner at Golden Corral (blah!) and went to see some movie. Well, during the movie Penn texted me to see if I was going to the show his brother was playing in. I said we were and that I was on a really boring date so I invited him to meet us there. I know, I’m horrible. We got there and I wanted to be up at the front because that’s where the fun is. Josh complained it was too loud so he went to the back. I was annoyed with him anyway, so I stayed up front with Penn. One song into the show, Josh comes up to me and says it’s time for him to go to bed so he told me that if I wanted to stay I needed to find a ride home. I was stunned! Who does that? Well, Penn told me he would take me home. We actually went and got Slurpees and went to his house before he took me home. Our first official date was to see the Utah Symphony. I’ll have to admit, he asked me out in a text message. We got all dressed up and went. After the concert, he openly admitted he was broke so we would have to find something for dinner at their house. We ended up making pancakes with peanut butter, since they had no real butter or syrup. They were nasty, but it was fun anyways. That weekend also happened to be conference weekend, so we watched the Sunday session together and then ended up going to his parents’ house in between sessions for lunch. So, I met the parents after dating for two days!

We only dated 5 weeks before getting engaged. It runs in the family. My parents were 3 weeks and both my brothers were 4 or 5 weeks. My sister was 4 too…..just in years. We were engaged from May 7th to August 2, 2006.

A funny story about the proposal, Penn arranged to have my dad pick up the ring since it was in Ogden on their way up to Bear River to have dinner with his parents. Silly boy didn’t think about paying for it, however, so my dad had to pick up the tab! He paid him back.

We were married in the Logan LDS Temple on August 2, 2006. We picked to get married there because we met in Logan, a majority of both of our families were close by, and my grandma was sealed there. We were married at 4:00 pm that day and it was superb weather. We did not have a reception. We had a luncheon at Hamilton’s before the ceremony where we had family and close friends attend.

We had an unusual honeymoon. Before we even got engaged, my brother invited Penn & I to drive one of their cars to Virginia where he would be attending law school. When we picked the date to get married, we planned it before they left so they could come. We decided to stick with the plan to help them out, so two days after we were married we began our cross-country journey to Virginia, caravanning with my brother and his wife in one car, Penn and I in the other, and my parents towing the trailer in their truck. I know what you’re thinking. You took your honeymoon with your parents? Believe me we had plenty of alone time. Plus, how many people can say that they road-tripped across the country for their honeymoon? We had a blast! We went to Busch Gardens and a water park and toured Colonial Williamsburg. We flew home thankfully!

Our engagement picture.

Bridal pictures done at Red Butte Garden. If you need a photographer, go to DonPolo photography. The lady's name is Adelpha and she is the funniest photographer and she does an amazing job! She even made my bouquet from Costco flowers!

Our wedding cake. My parent's thought it would be funny to have bride and groom cows as our cake topper since we met each other at Utah State.

My 2 brothers.

If you look close you can see Penn's black eye. He tried catching a baseball with his head at a family reunion 2 days before our wedding.

The Thornock sisters.

I had to put this picture up to show how badly I stick out in Penn's family. All 6 of his siblings and his parents are over 6 feet tall.

And it all ended with a fish. When my brothers decorated our car (on temple grounds) they put this huge fish under our hubcaps. We got down the road about 3 miles and the car started shaking violently and I noticed a fin sticking out.

Do you have your permission slips?

What! Permission slips to get married? Ok, not quite but looking back it sure feels like we should have had them. Mat and I were married in the Jordan River Temple on August 10, 1995 one year after we graduated from High School. We had a sophomore gym class together in which we never formally met, I was known as the “girl with the yellow gym shorts” that Mat liked to run behind. We officially met when my bff who had a major crush on Mat dragged me to his house. Mat and I started dating (which made the bff situation a bit tuff) and here we are 15 years later.

Everything at our wedding went as planned being that we had a 8 month engagement (way to long!!) to plan every little thing. The only real weird event of the day was my grandpa was in the hospital. My dad had promised him that we would go see him. Much to my surprise, he expected us to go to the hospital in the wedding dress and tux. Have you ever seen somebody walk through a hospital in a wedding dress?

The Layton's

Yes, you are right - this is not a wedding photo. This is the oldest picture I can find of Victor and I here at work. I just LOVE this picture, I think it shows how happy we truly are. We were up above Pineview and headed home after three days of camping.

Victor and I were married at Farmington Court House on November 10, 1993 (15 years this November). I wasn't a member of the church yet. My three kids were there, Victor's son and friends, my sister/husband, his brother/wife and a very dear friend. We had our wedding dinner at Shoney's (now the Asian Buffet) ~ now that's romantic isn't it?

Five years, one month and seven days later (December 17, 1998) we were sealed in the Bountiful Temple for time and eternity. I've never been happier in my life and so thankful that I have Victor in my life ~ he is truly a blessing. He puts up with me and all my shennanigans =}

Wheels wedding!

What did you expect?
We met in a bowling alley!

(we used to check each other out down the lanes! Jason made fun of how I bowled)

You better believe I got a
SLURPEE that day!!!

This was right before we cut the cake...

I thought I better throw
in a nice one of us as well...
We have been married now for 6 years! Jason is my best friend. We have so much fun together! We are definitely made for each other!

Bingham Wedding

I only have one picture of our wedding downloaded on our computer right now and it is not the best one. You really can't see Eric and I very well, but our scanner is down and I don't know when it will be up and running. I will keep trying to download a better picture when I can.

So Eric and I met on a blind date. It is amazing how those actually work out. We met on Sept. 18th, 1999 and were engaged two weeks later. We got married on Feb. 18th, 2000 in the Bountiful Temple. So we knew each other exactly 5 months to the day. Most people thought we were crazy, maybe we are :), but we just knew it was right and it didn't matter what other people thought. I don't have any funny wedding stories, it was a great day. It was cold though, as you can see in the picture. Those are my old rommates, by the way, throwing snowball at us.
The only crazy story about us is that it was a miracle that we actually ended up going out on the date. My best friend Cynthia as the one that set us up, and I asked her how tall he was. That was my only thing I had to have someone that was taller then me, it was hard to come by, I am actually taller then the average man. So she thought he was tall, but was not sure how tall. So then I asked, what is he like. She said he had a nice personality. Okay, so in my shallow mind. He was 5 foot 4, overweight and a dork. I was terrified to go out with him, but she had already given him my number and I had no choice, so I said yes. Then she tells Eric that I have been in the same singles ward for 8 years. He thought I as a total spinster, only weirdos stay in singles wards that long, (that is what he says, not me). But I guess we both were desperate enough to go out with each other and thank heavens it worked out. It was love a first sight for me, don't know about him. Thank heavens we are still in love with each other after 8 years of marriage.

Us "Older" Folks

Thought you might like to see what us "older" folks looked like on our wedding day! (I don't really feel old, but hey, look at the style of my dress!) David and I were married 25 years ago on April 29, 1983 in the Ogden Temple. It was a cold, rainy day but it stopped raining long enough to take some pictures. Keith Wilcox, the temple president, was our sealer. (He's the other guy in the picture.)

David and I met on a blind date. I met his cousin through the Ogden Institute and she lined us up when he got home from his mission. We took square dancing lessons if you can believe it. We haven't been since, except on Trek. I was actually a fill-in for his original date that got sick. To this day, he has never met her. 3 weeks after we met, he proposed. I was in a huge state of shock and told him I didn't know about that. I had just turned 19 a month before and was just having fun going out. (I really hadn't dated much before). He waited another 2 months and then I said yes. 25 years later, I love him more than I did on our wedding day. Some things just get better with time!

The Jorgy's wedding post

Here we are on our special day. Can you believe it was December? The exact date was December 14, 1995. We are going on 13 years. It's crazy how time flies. We met at Casper's Ice Cream Factory, he was the mix man and I was the cleaning lady. I always though he was dang hot in his tight "Guess" jeans and hot pink t-shirt. Since he was taking his own sweet time asking me out I decided to take the initiative and ask him first. I really was surprised he said yes because when I went to work I was in chore boots, sweat pants, t-shirt and a hairnet (not the cutest outfit I had). We went to a play at our Alma matter, Sky View, and had ice cream afterward. I had a great time and I think he did too but I never heard from him again. We would talk at Caspers but he never asked me out. About 1 1/2 months later I was thinking of asking someone out again and was debating between Joe and another guy. I was doubling with my sister again and her date was older so she encouraged me to ask Joe. I really didn't think he would say yes, but he did. After that, it was all him in the asking out department, it was even him when he broke up with me "just to make sure our feelings were genuine", I think he just wanted to date other girls. After about 10 days of separation he knew he couldn't live without me and we got back together. After a few more months of dating we were engaged and then married. It was a perfect day and really nothing went wrong, until coming home from the honeymoon (but that is a whole other post). No one needed their coats, it seemed more like May than December. I can truly say I have married my best friend and I couldn't ask for a better guy to be my eternal companion. Like I said 12 years and 4 kids later we are having the time of our lives and wouldn't go back to being single again.

Whirlwind Romance

So this is the Roundy Wedding picure! We had the world's worst photographer, so there are very few good wedding pictures! We got married on Leapyear, Feb. 29th, 2000 In the Bountiful Temple! I had my hair in a beautiful up do that day. We walked out of the Temple and the wind was blowing so hard my hair instantly blew out of it's beatuiful do. But, I really didn't care at that point! It was a wonderful day!!. Every wedding day has a funny story. So here is ours! After we were all done taking pictures and got changed. All of our family had left the Temple to go to the Luncheon. They left us a set of keys and Lance's Parents little car so that we could drive together to the Luncheon. So we go to the underground parking, get in the car to go to the Luncheon, and the car dosen't start! We don't have cell phones, we were to poor already, so we went back into the Temple to use the phone. We called every cell phone number we could remeber and nobobdy had turned their cell phones back on!!! We were totally stranded! So by shear luck I was inspired to call my house. Thank Heaven's my brother and his Finance answered the phone! They came and rescued us. We were over an hour late for our luncheon! So, of course, we walk into the Luncheon all flustered and in a rush, so what do they assume? Ya, they think we've gone and had a twinner. The only 2 people that believe us to this day are my brother and his now wife that resuced us that day!

The Green Newlyweds

Tyson and I met right here. Okay, not exactly right here at blogspot.com, but at ldschat.com. For a long time we were really embarrassed to tell anyone, so we told people we met at one of his softball games, which was not exactly a lie, because it is where we met in person for the first time. But times have changed and meeting on the internet is not quite as taboo as it was then. We had a lot of fun dating, but ran into a recurring embarrassing issue for me. Example: as alumni, we were going to a football game of our respective high schools (Davis vs. Northridge). Part way into the game, Tyson went to use the restroom. A guy in front of me turns around and says, "that's really cool, you go to Northridge, and your dad graduated from Davis!" What could I say? I mumbled something about Tyson not being my dad, that he was my friend (by the way, Tyson is less than two years older than me). Unfortunately, that was not the only time that such an awkward situation happened. On our HONEYMOON the flight attendant had to make sure I was at least fifteen years old, because our seats on the emergency exit isle. Luckily, I was 22, so we didn't have to move.

Teenage Romance

If your thinking that we look really young to be getting married, it's cuz we were. Luckily it has all worked out and we still kind of like each other after 5 years! Ok... I was the brave one, now everyone else needs to join in on the humiliation and dig out those wedding photos!

I think it would be awesome to all post our weddding pictures and our story of how we got together. How do you ladies feel about this. It would be fun to see how everyone has/hasn't changed. Let me know. I would post mine first but I'm not sure how to scan and then find the picture. Let me know if you want to do this or not. I think it sounds like fun, fun, fun!

A fun summer getaway

Wondering what to do this summer when all the kids are out of school? May I suggest Promentory Point. OK so it is in the middle of nowhere but there is history to learn here. We decided that since we had never been there we were going to take a day trip and go out and see the spot where "east meets west" at least in the railroad industry. We went on a "Free day" and had a ton of fun. We all got to ride on a hand car, a motor car, see in both of the engines, play games, get free stuff (coloring books, hats and whatnot) and just have a fun little day trip. I would recommend this to anyone with little kids but I would also recommed to go on the "Free day" because they have games and all the little extra stuff that is not there normally. If you want food, you need to take your own but they have drinking fountains, pop machines and nice bathrooms. I'm glad we were able to do this but it is probably a one time thing . We as a family want to see everything there is to see in Utah so we thought this would be a great place to start. It was a lot of fun and took up most of the day. Try it, who knew what Utah had to offer.

Another Look-a-Like

How about this--- (Victor is just missing his mustache he shaved off about 8 years ago). This is Gerald McRaney from Major Dad ... okay we're showing our age. Gerald's picture was in the paper once and a friend of ours was sure it was Victor.
STAR WARS ~~ TREKKIES... boy that's Victors love...
You all have given me ideas for a ward activity... How about a Trekky/StarWars night where everyone comes dressed in their favorite character.... - or how about a look-a-like contest. Folks submit a picture of someone they think they look like and we have to guess who in the ward looks like that person. - FUN!!!!

Star Wars starts Young

Last summer we went to Disneyland for the first time with the girls. I have to say, I am a huge Star Wars fan and would have loved to get to do what Heidi was able to do at Disneyland. She actually got to learn how to fight with a light saber. Of course, Heidi had no idea what Star Wars was at the time, she had never seen the movie, so she thought it was cool at first. She was picked from the audience to be a young Jedi Knight and learn the way of the Force. I was so excited for her. I was trying hard not to be a backstage mom. So she put on the Jedi costume, or uniform I should say, and got a lightsaber. They taught her how to fight and block an attack. WOW!! I was so jealous, and excited for her. Of course, she had no idea what was happening. Then all of the sudden, Storm Troopers show up, and Darth Vader comes out from the bottom of the stage. So, what does Heidi do??? Freaks out!! She wanted nothing to do with him and was finished. She walked off the stage!! Oh, to live through your children.
