Gingerbread House Contest

For our young women's activity this past Tuesday we decorated gingerbread houses and we thought it would be fun for the ward members (or anyone who wants to) to vote on which one turned out the best. Please leave a comment with your vote and we'll let you know who the winner is next week sometime.

Aerobics Breakfast

I just thought I would pass along the word that we are having a potluck breakfast tomorrow November 25 at 8:30 am in the church gym instead of having aerobics. It was a lot of fun last year and we thought we would do it again this year. There will be no workout involved, just eating and chatting. Bring the kids and something to share for breakfast!
(This is not just limited to Suntrails. All you Greenleaf people are invited too, or anyone who used to be in the ward but has moved out we would love to see you.)

Baby locks and stuff

For anyone interested...I have a ton of cabinet locks, a few plug covers and corner covers. They are free to anyone who wants them. Some are the ones that you put on the handles so your kids can't get in them or they are the ones that you screw onto your cabinets so they only open up so much. Most of these haven't been used so if you would like them let me know. I know there are a few of you who have had new babies and think you won't be in this stage for forever but it comes up quicker than you think. I don't think the DI will take them so if no one claims them they are going in the garbage. ANY TAKERS??? Leave a comment and let me know.

Lake Lyman 2009

July has come and gone, but the month made sure it went out with a bang. We've had a lot of fun in Young Women's this summer, and many of our activities have been in preparation for this one week where the girls, leaders, and a few select individuals head to the Uintahs for girls camp. This year's theme was Survivor Treasure Island. Each ward chose a tribe name (ours was Fia Fia, which means "happy" in Samoan) and color for camp. While we didn't "win" the survivor "competition," we all came away with a greater understanding of the gospel, sense of purpose, and understanding of what it means to be a treasured daughter of God.

We each also came away with a lot of great memories. Like the time that President Thompson ate ????? for the love of his ward. Or there was that morning when ?????, ?????, ?????, and ????? did ????? on the dock before flag ceremony. Or there was that time Bishop Thomson let the girls ????? during tribe time.

I could go on and on about all the great things that happened at camp, but really, you should go ask the girls. And chances are they'll smile and shrug their shoulders at your inquiries without really revealing anything. Why? Because as the saying goes: "What happens at Lake Lyman, stays at Lake Lyman!"

Game of Life & Scout-O-Rama

A few weeks ago the teacher’s quorum pulled off an amazing combined activity called the game of life.  Basically, we played the game of life in a cul-de-sac with spiritual and church trivia. Following the main part of the game the youth were assigned to a table (each table corresponded to a kingdom of glory) based on their answer to a simple question.  Following the game we had a BBQ and Tyson Green gave a uplifting message about the plan of salvation to tie the whole night together.  We all had such a great time and really appreciate the efforts of the teacher’s quorum.  Thanks guys!  We were able to shoot some pictures that evening that you can view here (you should all be able to figure out the password).

This past Saturday the cub scouts went to Scout-O-Rama at Fort Buenaventura  in Ogden.  They boys spent most of their time waiting in line to go canoeing on the pond (they were so stoaked for this).  They had a great time checking out all the booths and games.  Thanks to all the parents and leaders for their support of the program.  We have also included a few pictures from that morning here (again, the password isn’t too hard).

The pictures are in a password protected gallery; however, once you supply the password they are all freely available for download (at many resolutions), and available for printing at cost if you so desire. Feel free to share the galleries with friends and family.

Reminder for Scout-O-Rama

Fort Buenaventura (1 of 5)

I hate to move Michelle's lovely wedding dress photo down on the blog, but I need to post this. Sorry, Michelle! ;)

This is a reminder for all Cubs that Scout-O-Rama is THIS Saturday (May 16th). We're meeting at the church at 10:30am and will be back at the church around 2:30pm. Please remember to have them bring their permission forms and either a lunch or lunch money.

Although I've never been to Scout-O-Rama, I have been to Fort Buenaventure (where it's being held) and it's a really cool place. So plan on lots of fun!

Also, I haven't had any volunteers to help me drive the boys. I'm planning on maybe 10 scouts going and I only have THREE seatbelts. So PLEASE let me know if you can come with us.

Your vote counts

Last week the Young Women made a visit to our local Deseret Industries for a little fashion show. They found some fabulously hideous (or is that hideously fabulous?) outfits to model.

Now we need your help. Please take a moment to vote on the worst looking outfit of the bunch. Voting closes Saturday at 10pm and the winner will be announced Sunday in Young Women's and here on the ward blog. Just leave your vote in the comments section of this post.

And now for your viewing pleasure, I present the Young Women (and YW president) of the Suntrails Ward:

A BIG THANKS!!

Just wanted to thank you all for the love and support you have given Kris and I through his accident. So many of you have sent over food and goodies, and have made phone calls and e-mails. We do appreciate you all! Things went well in his last surgery, they did remove the index finger on his left hand, but he is doing much better. He now has a Mickey Mouse hand, (only four fingers). We are given trials in life for reasons we may never know, but I do know one thing, the Lord is there with us and he never leaves.
Thanks Suntrails Ward...we LOVE you all!

YM Priest Quorum Activity

Group

Last week the priests learned a little bit about photography and had a lot of fun doing it.  We started out with a presentation on the very basics of photography that covered the parts of the camera, basic photographic concepts, and the communicative parts of photography.  Yes even 16-18 year olds can have an emotional response to art.  :)

Then came the really fun part.  We set up with the gym and tried to make some really edgy, cool, and fun images of the guys playing basketball.  See the photoset here, slideshow here.  All the YM took turns being responsible for various photographic elements: camera, off-camera flash, light modifiers (umbrella, reflectors, walls, etc.), subject position, camera position, and light direction.   I took the group photo above but all the others were completely set up and shot by the YM.  They did an awesome job!  It was really fun to seem them work though the options and figure out what works and what doesn’t.  Enjoy!

Yet Another Request

I hate to keep using this blog as a way to ask something of the masses...but I guess that's what it's here for. This time it's for cubscouts, so at least it's ward related.

Does anyone have any Native American/Indian costumes or props? Anything such as moccasins, a headdress, bow, etc. would be very helpful for an upcoming pack meeting.

Let me know if you have anything! THANKS!!

New Doctor Needed

I'm going to follow Michelle's example and ask about doctors. We just changed insurance companies and need to find a new pediatrician or family practice physician. Any of you have a recommendation?

Thanks!

Winter Adventure

Happy New Year,
Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  We just wanted to invite others to join in some winter outdoor activities.  We've reserved a semi-cozy cabin (owned by Sheriff's office and very warm) up Farmington Canyon for January 23-24.  Both days we plan to have a snowmobile up there to shuttle people around.  Activities could include photography, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snow cave building, tubing or any other wintery fun.  And for those who've been watching the news lately, just ignore the EXTREME avalanche warnings (Just kidding, we will be staying well away from these areas though).  Diane and I are planning to go up Friday morning and come back late Saturday afternoon.  However one could come up for just a night or day. The cabin will accommodate about 16 people.  Since kids don't typically have the endurance for these kind of rigorous and cold activities.  We're recommending not bringing kids younger than 12 or so.  If interested, please contact Diane or myself.   Hope to see you there.   -Tyson

P.S. although this picture was taken up Farmington Canyon last year, it is NOT the cabin we're staying in.
