More Dates Needed

Nate and Mad (9 of 9)

Rob and I have had a hard time finding a babysitter lately. Our family lives in Salt Lake County so it's a drive to get the kids there or for someone to get here. We'd love to go on dates and to the temple more often.

Does anyone want to trade babysitting nights/days with us so you can go out more, too???

OR

Does anyone have a son/daughter, niece/nephew, granddaughter/grandson, or cousin looking for a babysitting gig???

Our kids LOVE playing with other kids. The only thing is that they go to bed relatively early, so that will have to be taken into consideration when trading with another family.

Just leave a comment here or call if you want to talk about it.

Thanks!!
Julie Snow

So....What did you think?

I loved it! It followed the book pretty much to a T and I found myself giggling through the whole movie. I thought they did a wonderful job at matching the characters with the actors. Edward and Bella were perfect, Mike and Jessica were perfectly annoying, Jacob was cute, and the whole Cullen Family was so right on! Stop reading if you haven't seen it... I thought it was so funny how they went out of there way to make Bella "Italiano" and Rosalie was so mad when Bella said she had already eaten. (I would have enjoyed it better if I didn't have to hear all the teenagers clapping and yelling through the whole movie :) If you haven't seen it yet...you need to.

YSA Service Project

Hey Everyone!! The Young Single Adults are conducting a tri-stake donation drive to create hygiene kits for the Humanitarian Department of the Church as part of our November Service Activity. These kits are used throughout the world and also for our neighbors who don't even have the necessities due to tragedies or calamities.

We are asking the members of the Layton West Stake to help us create thise kits by donating the following items:
Bars of Soap (3 1/2 X 5 oz. bars)
Hand Towels (15 X 25 inches, no dishtowels or washcloths)

The YSA's of our ward will collect these items and kit them. Our goal is to create 500 kits. There is a donation box in the RS room of the church building. (We only have about two weeks to get these items!!!) So please help us by donating either of these items by Nov.19th! You can also contact Fred & Toni Bauman, Katie Baxter, Mark & Becky Tolman, or Brady Thomson, if you would rather just give us any of these items!! THANKS!!!

Wheeler Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday of all time!!! We had 3 different Halloween costumes for Quinn but this was by far my favorite!!! She actually enjoyed it when we put on the makeup.

Jason and I are gamers and we LOVE the game World of Warcraft so Jason dressed up as an Elixer of greater Healing potion. Anyone who plays the game will get it. And I (of course) am a carrot! The end...

Why So Serious!!!

Cub Scout Book Donations

For Pack Meeting on Tuesday the cubscouts are collecting used children's books to donate to a community health center in Salt Lake. If you don't have any books at home, Deseret Industries has tons of books for only 50 cents.

All of you who don't have cubscouts can still donate! You can either bring them to the church on Tuesday at 6pm or can give them to me (Julie Snow) anytime before November 3rd.

The clinic was really excited to hear about our donation. So thanks for your help!

Service Project Ideas

The cubscouts are looking for a service project to do for their November pack meeting on November 25th at 6pm. The requirements are:

  • That it takes less than an hour to perform.
  • Something families with young children can do.
  • Can be done at the church or within the ward/stake boundaries.

Any suggestions?? Just leave a comment. THANKS!!

I was told about this Blog Page from my stepdaughter --- and I know that some of us LOVE to read blogs..... I found this blog humorus and things I find myself doing. The author is Brigham and he lives in Houston. He states on his BLOG: OUR PURPOSE ~ Helping Mormons Laugh at Themselves Because they feel guilty mocking others"
I hope you enjoy and will find some "fun" in his poking fun. In April 2008 he has a post called "Mormons Still Like Brooke White" - you'll find out about Mo-Dar.

B.O.O.T. Camp

This post is late- but better late than never.
This year girls camp was at Lake Lyman, and the theme was B.O.O.T. Camp (Building Our Own Testimonies).  Denise and I were called to be on the camp committee.  We were already familiar with some of the other girls from the stake because of our officiating assignment for YW sports, but it was a lot of fun to get to know the other girls, as well as get to know the Suntrails YW & leaders better.  Michelle, Alicia, Jen, Bishop Thomson and President Butler all came up as leaders, and Holly, Bridin and Jasmine were our YW from the ward.

Some of the more experienced camp leaders suggested we use some bug bombs on the cabins as soon as we arrived.  The aftermath was so gross in some of the cabins- but it was better to have all those flies and spiders dead (and throw them out) than alive and crawling into sleeping bags and such.  We didn't bug-bomb the loft where the stake leaders slept, and Denise paid for it when a moth attacked her in the middle of the night.

The first day we had a really fun welcome ceremony and played games. That evening we had a Pageant where the wards dressed up one of their leaders like a leader from the scriptures (our Bishop was Helaman).  We had fashion and talent portions that were REALLY fun.  Denise M.C.'d (who better?!), and the girls seemed to really love it.  For the last portion of the pageant, each leader from the ward explained the leadership qualities of the person they were representing from the scriptures. They bore their testimonies and the spirit was so strong- it was an awesome activity.

The next morning we woke up the girls by carrying around a karaoke machine to each cabin and blasting them with "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". Much better than banging pans, in my opinion. As stake leaders, we had a BLAST singing and dancing at the crack of dawn.  Some of the girls got into it, but I think some of them now hate the Andrews Sisters- even though they don't know who they are.
The following days were filled with waterfront and the craft (a really cute magnet board), certifications, singing & dancing, flag ceremonies and push-ups.  Lots of push-ups in keeping with the Boot Camp theme.  If you were late, left your jacket or book lying around, etc., you got to do push-ups.  It sounds harsh, but it was really fun, and for the most part, only the leaders ever had to "give'em twenty".  I guess it's easy for me to say it was fun, because I was always taking pictures, and never had to actually do the push-ups myself.

Our ward time was great.  The girls prepared roasted Starbursts for us- a very tasty treat.  We had great devotionals and had fun playing "Big-Bootie". We all had our nails painted, even Bishop- what a sport!  Although, he did insist on the nail polish remover before he went home (Carrie's wedding was the next day, and for some reason he thought it would be awkward to be wearing fingernail polish.)
Wednesday night we heard from President Thompson.  He gave a great talk relating the things we saw around camp to the Savior's role in our lives- everything relates to the Savior.  For Thursday night's activity, all of the stake leaders made a flag (like the Title of Liberty) and wrote a few words that expressed their testimony.  All the leaders were going to display their flags at the Martha (which is the amphitheater- I don't know why it's called "the Martha"). But it had begun to rain earlier in the day, and it was wet & cold.  And later in the afternoon, a couple leaders and a few girls had become lost when they went on a hike.  They were going to meet the rest of their ward at a certain time, but they never showed.  The camp became heavy with worry, and everything was suddenly put into perspective.  It seems like every year you hear about scouts getting lost, and of course you feel badly for the lost scout and his family.  But I've never really thought about the mood of the camp.  Luckily, the leaders of the lost group were very wise, and they strategically found their way back to camp.

The Title of Liberty activity was held inside the lodge.  Some of the leaders bore their testimonies, and President Butler spoke to us as well.  It was a really special activity- I think partly because of the earlier events of the day.

Right before the activity we had the privilege of retiring one of the camp's worn United States flags. That is a special experience to have.  Sister Watt was the camp director, and her son-in-law served in Iraq and helped with the ceremony.  The girls really took the flag ceremonies serious, especially that last one.  I learned a lot about the flag, and I think they did as well.

Our Community Blog

I have added a few blogs to our "favorites".  Some of our friends don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but it is still fun to stay in touch and see what is going on with their lives.  If I've added anyone who doesn't want to be in our favorites, just let me know and I can take it off.  Also, if we're missing anyone who lives in the area or has lived in the area, please add them!

Who's Who?

Who's Who in the Butler Family?

I have had a frame on my wall for a couple of months now that has had no pictures in it except for the models that were already in it and none of them happened to look like anyone in the family. I finally came up with an idea of what to put in it (there were nine 4x6 openings). Diane helped me scan them into the computer and change the color to sepia. (thanks again Diane!) It looks really good on my wall and I love being reminded of what my now much bigger kids used to look like. It was really fun to find the same age photos of David and I. I am going to keep you all guessing for now but will update with the answers in a few days!
P.S. Thank you so much for everyone who helped make our busy day today with Derek a great one. It was a wonderful day and made even better with everyone who helped with goodies, chairs, well-wishes, etc. Thanks again for everything! We love our ward family!

Years Ago...(those who read my blog, sorry, but now it's your turn)

Tag....I'm it.

YEARS AGO...

1. I had started seventh grade and thought I was pretty cool,my best friends were Emily Allen, Tammy Warren and Angie Dunkley.
2. I was a pretty diligent journal writer, writing in my journal at least once a week.
3. I was still a paper girl-delivering 40 papers every day except Saturday.

1. I was starting my senior year with many things coming up; cheer, Guys and Dolls, Front Porch Majority (show choir), AP English (not so exciting but I was able to read a ton of books and I love to read), and vowing not to kiss any guy my senior year (I did it, one goal accomplished, and no I didn't kiss a ton of guys before I just decided to make this goal so I wouldn't get a steady boyfriend).
2. This was the year of the "hazing incident" at SVHS. It was an awful situation but in the end our class/school came together like never before. Our football season was cancelled but ALL our winter sports took region and boys basketball and boys soccer took State. Yeah, basically '94 rocks.
3. This was the year of my penny party. When myself of any of my friends found a penny in the halls of school, they would usually bring them to me and I would put them in my little red garbage can. I saved them up and at the end of the year we all went to Bear lake and had a party. I bought treats with all the pennies we found (It was over $5.00 so I could only afford a bag of Chips Ahoy and Oreos).

1. I quit my job at Exquisite to become a full time mom-something I have never regretted.
2. We had just had our first son, Christian, in March, the beginning of mommyhood.
3.We finally got insurance. It was such a blessing to not have to worry about going to the doctor and paying the whole amount, just a copay. It was awesome!!!

1. We had bought our first house. It was so exciting, but also scary...we were finally adults with a mortgage.
2. In July I was called as Primary President in our ward. We moved here in March, the wards split in July and they called me to this calling. I had no clue who was in the old part of the ward yet alone the new part they added. Calling counselors was quite an experience...I am so glad we have the Holy Ghost to guide us.
3.For Thanksgiving we went to Disneyland with my side of the family. It was so much fun being there with all the little cousins. Disneyland is such a fun, magical place.

1. We had our last baby, Ethan in April. He was such an easy, good baby.
2. Joe was called to be the 1st counselor in the bishopric. This was to begin my tenure of being alone during sacrament meeting. It was hard but it's getting easier every week.
3. This was the year of the surgery for our family. Everyone but Christian had surgery. The doctors sure loved us in 2005.

1. We went to Disneyland just as a family. We went in Feb. and it was awesome, crowds weren't big, weather was great and kids loved it.
2. Joe and I were called to be Ma's and Pa's on our youth trek. It was so awesome. What a testimony building experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
3. I was able to go visit my sister Suzette with my other sisters Marci and Cristy in Phoenix. It was so much fun to surprise her and see her cute little pregnant belly (even though she was pregnant with twins). We had such a fun time just being silly girls. Thanks Joe, Jeremy and Josh-you guys rock.

This year so far...
1. Joe and I were able to take a vacation, just the two of us. It was so nice just spending time with him and not having to worry about kids.
2. I was called to be on the Stake girls camp committee. I loved every minute of it, even though I am not a camper. Lake Lyman was tons of fun and it was also a special, spiritual experience for me.
3. Our summer was packed with fun, fun, fun. We had something going on every week. It sure made the summer fly by, and I didn't hear "mom I'm bored, what are we going to do today?", too many times over the summer.

Yesterday...
1. Cleaned the upstairs; bathrooms, mopped the floors, and Joe vaccumed. (What a sweet guy!)
2. Went to lunch at Maddox with my sisters and mom to celebrate my mom's birthday. Happy Birthday Mom-I Love You!!!
3. Cleaned out the dead plants in my garden while McCall and Ethan picked every squash that was in it, even the teeny, tiny ones.

Today...(I did this a few days ago)
1. Spent way to much time on this post trying to figure out how to move pictures around.
2. Took McCall to school, almost made her late because I was on the computer.
3. Doing laundry...the unending task.

Tomorrow...
1. Practice a song I'm going to sing Sunday in someone else's ward.
2. Watch Jed and Jacey at lunchtime and Easton and Autumn after school, go to musical review practice.
3. Bottle sweet memory pickles, they only take about 5 days to make-they better be worth it.

Next Year...
1. McCall will be in full day school, I don't know what Ethan and I will be doing all day alone (any suggestions?)
2. Hopefully I will be able to get my mantel for our fireplace.
3. Go on another trip with just Joe, we got bumped last time and now have vouchers for airfare, where to go...?

I tag...EVERYONE and ANYONE who reads this blog. Lets's see YOUR years ago.

The Green's Summer Highlights

Although, technically, there are several more days of summer... we're not going anywhere.  I thought I'd share some of the season's highlights for our family:

I was able to play softball this year.  Our team did pretty well and made it to the playoffs. However, the playoffs were during girls camp, and I never actually found out how our team faired.

Speaking of girls camp I had the pleasure of being the camp photographer this year.  The theme was "B.O.O.T. Camp" (Building Our Own Testimonies) and we got to run around in camouflage.  That is my cup of tea!  There are a bunch more pictures that I'm tempted to include, but I think that is going to have to be it's own post (Denise, this is fair warning).

Jayden took swimming lessons again this year over at the Clark's.  It has made such a difference! I think he's still cautious around water (or maybe that's me being terrified of water), but he's not scared of it anymore.  He loves to wear his goggles, even in the bathtub... (and if wearing his goggles is all the bribery it takes to get him in the tub, I'm okay with it).

We usually make it up to Bear Lake a couple times each summer, and this year was no exception.  It is a great getaway and such a pretty lake.  We're usually there over the 24th of July, and it's fun to see all the rich people shoot off their illegal fireworks over the lake.

Somewhere in the middle of all this we went to a family reunion at Heber Valley Girls Camp. It is a beautiful camp, and we were able to go out on the lake in canoes and enjoy the scenery.

The highlight of that weekend was definitely the challenge course.  When you first meet for
the activity, you meet right in front of the zip line.  You have to climb about twenty feet up, walk about 15 feet across a log, and then you're hooked up to a zip line and off you go.  I was pretty intimidated, but luckily there are a bunch of other activities you do first, and you kind of build up to the zip line.  I should mention that we also signed up Jayden for the challenge course, so I was trying to verbalize how fun and cool this was going to be, all the while trying to figure out if I was going to be able to do it myself.

Finally, it was time for the zip line.  I didn't have as much trouble as I thought, because you are on belay the whole time, and you feel very supported and like you wouldn't drop an inch, even if you jumped off the top of the tower.  So I went on the zip line- it was actually pretty fun, but the whole time I was just thinking about Jayden, because he was going shortly after me.  I figured he'd climb about half way up the pole and get scared and want to get down- but I would be happy that he at least tried.

Much to my surprise, the kid climbs up the twenty foot pole without any hesitation, walks across the log to the platform where the sister missionary hooks him up to the zip line.  She seemed a little surprised and asked how old he was... I don't know how many four year olds do the zip line, but I was sure proud of him!  I kept thinking "that's MY kid!"

We wrapped up the summer with our annual fishing trip in Montana.  The most exciting part of the trip occurred when we first arrived and Tyson was helping his dad park their trailer. Jayden and I were checking out some of the other spots and I saw a fairly large fuzzy animal saunter behind one of the small cabins in the campground. But it was just a bear, and my pulse only jumped to 193 bpm, and it's possible I may have slightly cut off the circulation in Jayden's hand as I dragged him by the wrist back to our campsite... no biggie.

Cub Scout Day Camp

-20

I thought some of you might enjoy seeing the pictures taken at this year's Cub Scout day camp. We had a lot of fun and I'm glad I was able to participate. This was the first time I'd ever shot a bb gun and a bow and arrow. I think I did pretty well for an amateur!

I have a lot of fun serving in my calling as cub master. I've always enjoyed scouting (I was a girl scout) and feel it is such an important program. The boys are great! This last week for pack meeting we had a water fight and it was so much fun. Thanks for sticking with me as I learn the ropes.

30 Bands Ago

30 Bands Ago - 7

Here are some pictures I took of the widely acclaimed band "30 Bands Ago". It was so much fun to hear Brooks, Denise, Jason, Rob, Rob, and Debbie share their talents. You guys ROCK!!

I wanted to give the pictures a bit of an edgy feel, as any church band should have, right?

Enjoy!

Blast from the WAY past

These are our high school senior pictures. I graduated from Davis High and Kris from Clearfield High. I was a blond all through high school, cuz I had heard blonds have more fun (even with the dark roots)
