The Waters from the Past

Rob went to high school in Trussville, Alabama at Hewitt-Trussville High School and graduated in 1992. He refers to his high school as a prison because they actually modeled the disciplinary system for the entire school district after the rules at his high school. He played soccer and played the trumpet in the band. Down in the south the bands are really good and it is cool to be in the band, unlike here where only the dorks are in band and the bands suck.

This is my senior picture and I hate it, but there you go. I graduated from Bountiful High School in 1995. I didn't really do anything extra-curricular during high school, in fact I tried to do as little curricular as possible too. Katey talked about getting the record number of U's for citizenship in her school and I think I was close to that too. I did make some really good friends and I had a lot of fun, so that makes up for it I think. The other picture above is me with a group of my friends on our Spring Break trip to California my senior year.

This is is what Rob and I looked like when we met. (He's the tough looking biker guy on the left) He had bleach-blonde hair, and mine was red. My mom was mortified when I left to move to Utah State with red hair. She said "But what if you meet someone?" I said "Yeah, so?" I guess she didn't think I looked as good as a red-head. I met Rob a few weeks later in July of 1998, we were engaged in October and married in December.

Above is us dressed up for the Halloween party at Utah State when we were dating. I was going to go as Princess Leia and he was going to be a construction worker. He saw my wig and talked me into trading costumes. He even drew a beard on me with pen. It was pretty funny. There were a lot of other Construction workers at the party, but none of them were girls and there were a lot of other Princess Leia's but none of them were guys.

The other picture above is our engagement picture and below is our wedding picture. We have been married for almost 10 years.

The Allreds: Jr. High & High School

One major change you might notice......Penn had HAIR!!!

I spent my Jr. High years at Central Davis Jr. High. In these very awkward teenage years I played basketball all three years and was the power forward (all 5'4" of me...we had a rather short team those years). I also ran track one year and my race was the 400M. That race was brutal, it was basically a sprint around the whole track. I also played club soccer for the Layton Strikers. My family moved to Farmington in between my 8th and 9th grade year, but since my mom was working at the elementary school next door to Central Davis, I stayed there for 9th grade so I could play basketball.
For High School, I made the move to Davis High since we lived in those boundaries and I had been playing soccer on the Kayville club team. So I would be the only Dart in a family of Lancers. I became highly involved in sports playing varsity soccer all three years and being captain of the sophomore basketball team. I tore my ACL during basketball my first year so I spent about 6 months rehabing from that to be ready for my jr. year in soccer. I didn't play basketball after that because I went to play on the northern Utah club soccer team in the high school off season and the basketball coach wanted me to pick one or the other. I think she thought I would pick basketball, but alas I stuck with my true sport. During my sr. year in soccer I was playing great, even to the point I was looking at playing in college, and tragedy struck. Another torn ACL. There went that dream! So it was off to rehab again, but I was done. I did have academics to fall back on and was offered full tuition scholarships to all the major schools in Utah, so being 18 and excited to get out of the house, I chose Utah State to be my home for the next 4 years.
Penn doesn't have a lot of stories of sports teams and school clubs from these years because he was home schooled. He was involved in a community orchestra playing the cello. He did have a lot of close friends from his home town. I did find some pictures and lo and behold the boy did have hair at one time.

Breaking Dawn

I know a lot of you are fans of the Twilight series, and with the upcoming release of the final book, I wanted to get some of your theories on how the story ends. I will include my theories in the comments...

The Meldrums

I was born and raised in New York City. Growing up in NYC was amazing. My family were converted to the church when i was eight. I went to an all girl catholic high school in Manhattan. I was one of three mormons in the entire school. You would think that would be tough but actually it presented many opportunities for me and my best friend to share the gospel with others. The hardest part of going to a Catholic school was the mandatory mass sessions i had to go to every monday (definitely not my favorite thing) and religion class. I struggled with memorizing all the saints and other complicated stuff i just didn't get. I was in the volley team and drum corp ( i played the snair drums). I was lucky enough to march in a couple of the Thanksgiving parades. I didn't attend dances because the nuns did not like that idea for anyone at the school( i did go to church dances of course) and my best friends at school was a Mormon, a Cuban catholic and an atheist.

Cole was born in Ogden, Utah. Him and his family moved to Layton when he was twelve. He went to Layton HS. He was a nerd i hear. He was a member of all the fancy clubs at school that i could care less to join. No athletic skills he tells me so he had no choice. He went to several dances but has forbidden me from posting any embarrassing pictures of him. He served a mission in NYC and that's how we met.

He served in my area for about three months twice. The first time i don't really recall meeting him. The second time was about six months before going home. My junior year i decided that i needed a change and decided to attend Weber State when i graduated. I had friends who lived out here so i thought that would be fun. Half way through my freshman year i missed home and missed having the SUBWAY and decided to go back home when i was done with my freshman year and then Cole came to the picture. He too was attending Weber and well... i didn't get to move back to the big apple. So here we are six years later (no regrets though).

16

Hi, ward! We're excited to be part of this blog. It's hilarious and we hope to get to know everyone a little more. If you want, you can stop by our family blog at http://www.rjsnow.com/.

Rob 17 Mean

Here's Rob at 16. He had this picture taken for his hardcore rock band, Lockdown. They were going to put it on their awesome album, which was never made. Rob's a drummer and has enjoyed some success in a couple of his other bands. His other high school band, Mookie Proofed, had great success playing for school events. Download their songs here (zip file). When we were dating (after his mission) he was in another band named FOUND. They played around town in different clubs and won a couple of Battle of the Bands. Download their songs here (zip file). In high school Rob also played soccer in a league and tried to date as many of his girl "friends" as possible. Fortunately for me he wasn't too successful :).

Fountain Front

Here's me at 16. I went to Taylorsville High School, but wasn't too involved in anything having to do with it. I spent my time going off to Las Vegas with my friends (where this picture was taken), getting my navel pierced, and sneaking into clubs. I never really did anything too bad but I did put myself into plenty of situations that could've turned ugly really quickly. Looking back I'm really grateful nothing bad ever happened. Oh, to be young and careless...or stupid!!

Cindy "Vincent" Layton Jr. Prom - high school update

Yep this is me at my Jr. Prom in 1971 (yes, I know some of you are gasping and saying -- I wasn't even born yet)..... but you are as old as your heart and mind feel and that makes me about 24 =}
I went to Central High School in Aurora, Colorado and graduated in 1972. I didn't play much sports, but I was at every FOOTBALL game we had. This guy was my heart throb who played defensive linebacker.... I love FOOTBALL to this day, in fact when my boys were in little league, I was their offensive line coach....
Victor did a lot of church basketball growing up and getting in trouble with his older and younger brother. His mom was a member and his dad was not. She always made sure he went to church.
I have 2 sisters and 1 brother - I am the oldest (can't you tell by my bossy ways =}. This has been a blast pulling up these pictures and stirring up some good ol' memories.

Engagement Pic ~ Cindy & Victor Layton

I found an engagement picture taken in October 1993. We were married in November 1993. (see blog from before on the details). Look at the BIG hair I have - and mustache on Victor ~ (I was sad when he shaved it off). Our honeymoon was in Vegas, basically for 2 days. Now we make up for it by doing lots of traveling. Our favorite place is Orlando, Florida. We LOVE Disneyworld and the Epcot.

Burnside Family Vacation

Yellowstone!

We recently returned home from vacation to Yellowstone.

I thought I would share a few pics, hope no one minds.

You can bet that every time you go to Yellowstone you will see some Bison and most often they will cause a traffic jam! We were lucky enough to see them swim. That not something you see everyday!

I've been to Yellowstone a dozen or so times in my life , but never in the spring. It was so fun to see all the baby animals. There were tons of spring flowers in bloom. I would totally recommend going in the spring .(less people, cooler weather, babies , and flowers.)

It is also said that you can see more Bears in the spring because they have come down to where the grass is green. We had to drive a bit to see this one, but we were so excited to see it.

We saw tons of animals and had so much fun enjoying the beautiful world that God has created!

Go Jags!

Mat and I graduated from West Jordan High in 94. Thats all I gotta say about that!
Wonder what Mat's thinking? Me too! This is one of the many dances that Mat asked me to. There are not pictures of us at any girls choice dances becasue I never aked him! (Don't remind him, it's still a sore subject.) Mat played soccer all four years of High school. I'm not in the photo but you can bet I was on the sidelines!!! We did not spend much time apart. In fact I spent all my spare time when I was not working at the Flower Patch with Mat and all his buddies.

So now that I have found this new "thing" called blogging, I decided it looked like fun and I'm joining in on it. Kris and I met on a blind date August 1,1970 and were married December 23,1970 in my parents living room. Yes, I am wearing a miniskirt! I wanted to wear jeans but my mom said "NO"! We didn't have a reception so my parents furnished our apartment. The past 38 years have been an amazing journey, and I can't wait to see whats lies ahead for us. We are having the time of our lives right now.

We have lived in Arkansas, Florida, Washington State, Nevada, California and Utah. We were married six years before being blessed with our children, Jennifer (Jim), Jeffrey (still single) Elizabeth (Lon) and Carrie (getting married to Brock Aug 8th). We have six amazing grandkids!

We were sealed in the Ogden Temple December 5,1992

We spend as much time with our kids and grandkids as we can.
Isn't Kris a handsome Limo Driver!!! He looks pretty good on his Harley, too.

Spence and Jordan in High School

All of my photos of high school are in the attic so I will choose to humiliate Spencer in this post. He will kill me when he sees his dance pics on the ward blog! Spencer graduated from Fremont High in 1999. He didn't play any school sports but kept busy with his friends pulling pranks, making bombs, playing ice hockey, etc. This was his beloved Jeep Wagoneer that he still talks about to this day. He would pile in the whole town of Hooper and play taxi to and from school. He is determined to buy another one in the future and fix it up.

As for girls, he was quite the Casanova. His idea was to have a bunch of girlfriends as a senior so that they all would send him packages on his mission. When he got home, he crushed all their hearts and married me! Rude i know, but it worked. He got tons of cookies and other goodies every month from these gullible women. He really meant well :) The pic on the right is not a dance picture, but a senior picture with his friend Jayson.

As for me, I graduated from Davis High in 2003. I played volleyball all through High school and on a competitive team called Club Davis. We would have practice 3 times a week and tournaments on weekends where we would play then eat junk food in between games. It was a blast. This pic is of my 3 best friends all through Jr. high and high school. I was so excited cause I was going to the dance with a huge crush but the day before the dance was my first date with Spencer. That Saturday, I was on cloud 9 and didn't want to go with the kid at all. We had a good time, but I might have talked about going on a date with a returned missionary the whole time.
I worked at Dick's bakery as a decorator all through high school where I must have gained 20 lbs. They were known for their eclairs and I probably sneaked one every time I worked. It was fun to learn how to decorate and I got to work with all my friends.

Diane's workin' hard or hardly workin' ?

Woops, I forgot to mention that I also worked at Baskin Robbins the summer before my senior year, and then during my senior year I worked with some of my friends at Dairy Queen.

At BR I developed a Pop-eye forearm from scooping the hard ice cream. My favorite flavors to eat were 1) Wheel of Fortune Choco Letter Crunch, which has been retired, and

2) Nutty Coconut: A taste sensation since 1967, made with Coconut ice cream combined with roasted almonds, buttered pecans and walnut pieces (their words, not mine). I would describe it as a 300 calorie & 20 fat gram scoop of goodness. Good thing my metabolism was working then!

Hardest flavor to scoop: Rocky Road.

If I'm being honest, the ice cream wasn't quite as good at DQ, but it was more fun working there with my friends. We had a drive through, and it was always fun to play on the headsets. I was actually pretty good at making large ice cream cones with the trade mark curl on top. I still like to show off my soft-serve skills when we go any place with a dessert buffet.

My favorite's at DQ were the Peanut Buster Parfait and the Brownie one (I can't remember what it was called). Again, it's good my metabolism was in high gear.

There was a company policy when making the banana splits- we weren't supposed to put chocolate next to one of the other flavors... judging from this picture it must have been strawberry. The managers said if you put chocolate next to strawberry, some sort of bad chemical reaction would happen. I never really believed it, and I could never remember what two flavors I was supposed to keep apart. Hopefully I never killed anyone!
